About this Program
Artist: Christopher Spinelli Location: Little Island Pier 55, 55 Pier 57 Hours: Sun-Saturday 7AM-5PM (Weather permitting)
Artist Statement: Many years ago, I planted a Japanese Cherry Blossom Tree in my Brooklyn backyard. When my son was little, the sight of the cherry blossoms (Sakura) left him so captivated that he was inspired to write a poem about them. Every spring, I eagerly await the arrival of these blossoms, which paint the sky above my backyard in countless shades of pink. Yet, the beauty is short-lived, reminding me that, like the blooms, our lives are also fleeting. For artist Yayoi Kusama, polka dots symbolize infinity. My Sing for Hope Piano blends the ephemeral Sakura with Kusama's vision of capturing the infinite.

The Sing for Hope Pianos
Sing for Hope Pianos is a global arts program that creates
artist-designed pianos, places them in public spaces for everyone to
enjoy, then transports and activates them year-round in schools,
hospitals, and community centers worldwide. Sing for Hope has provided
more pianos for under-resourced public schools than any other
organization in the world.
